Oddly shaped objects in one’s line of vision can be termed as eye floaters. This happens from the degenerative changes occurring in the vitreous fluid that fills the globular capsule of the eye. Though, it is also known to occur from eye infections, inflammation, eye injury or trauma, or other severe eye conditions like retinal detachment or retinal tear.

However, this is more of an old age problem and as one gets older, the number of floaters in the eye only tend to increase in some. The vitreous humor or fluid is a substance resembling jelly in consistency that is contained within the eyeball. This fluid breaks down or liquefy as one ages, and in some, microscopic fiber-like substances tend to accumulate in the fluid, which then cast shadows in the person’s field of vision.

Natural Remedies for Eye Floaters
-- Taurine helps in proper maintenance of the eye structures. Taurine can be obtained from foods like organ meats, shrimps, clams, and scallops.

-- Exercises to relax the eye muscles will also be of some benefit for eye floater sufferers. Roll the eyes upwards and downwards, sideways and in a circular motion (both clockwise and anticlockwise) as often as possible.

-- Floaters occurring as a result of eye inflammatory conditions can be effectively dealt with by washing the eyes with an herbal eyewash solution.  To prepare this, blend two tablespoons each of goldenseal root, Echinacea root, and eyebright herb; blend these nicely.  Add this to two cups of boiling water and brew for approximately 45 minutes under low flame. Strain the liquid, cool and use it to wash the eyes three times in a day until relief is got.

-- Antioxidants have the ability to prevent any damage and protect the vitreous humor.  These are abundantly found in certain food sources, like spinach and other green leafy vegetables, lemons, oranges, carrots, artichokes, red and black beans, wild blueberries, blackberries, cranberries, prunes, and flaxseeds. Include these in the daily diet with more of vitamin C foods since they help in strengthening the connective tissues surrounding the eye.

-- Increasing blood circulation in the eye organ seems to have helped many in reducing eye floaters.  For this, the use of herbs like Gingko biloba and bilberry will be beneficial. Combine these to make a herbal tea preparation or take a supplement of Gingko and bilberry extract, which is considered an easier manner to enjoy its benefits.
