Acupuncture Point Yanglao (SI6)
Location:
1. Flex the elbow with the palm facing the chest; on the radial border of the capitulum of ulna, at the cleft on the level of the highest point of the capitulum of ulna. 2. With the palm facing downwards; press the highest point of the capitulum of ulna with a finger of another hander, then turn the palm to face the chest, at the cleft where the finger slips into.
Function:
Refreshing oneself and improving eyesight.
Regional Anatomy:
Skin-subcutaneous-tissue-tendon of ulnar extensor muscle of wrist.
In the superficial layer, there are the medial cutaneous nerve of the forearm, the posterior cutaneous nerve of the forearm, the dorsal branches of the ulnar nerve and the tributaries of the basilic vein. In the deep layer, there is the network of the dorsal carpal arteries and veins.
Indications:
Blurred vision, pain in the shoulder, elbow and arm.
Prescription:
Combined use with QiuhouEXHN7 (EX-HN7) for treatment of hypopsia; with SibaiST2 (Sibai (ST2)) for treatment of facial spasm; with FengchiGB20 (Fengchi (GB20)) for treatment of occipital neuralgia; and with TianzhuBL10 (Tianzhu (BL 10)) for treatment of pain in the shoulder and back.
Methods:
Insert the needle obliquely upward 0.5-1.0 cun deep; needling response: local sensation of distension, radiating to the shoulder; moxibustion: using 3-5 moxa-cones, or mild moxibustion for 10 min.
