Acupuncture Point Xiaohai (SI8)
Location:
Flex the elbow slightly; at the same level of the transverse elbow stria, between olecranon and medial epicondyle of humerus. A sensation of electric shock and tingling occurs when this point is plucked or knocked.
Function:
Tranquilizing and refreshing oneself, and removing obstruction in the channels and collaterals.
Regional Anatomy:
Skin-subcutaneous tissue-groove of ulnar nerve.
In the superficial layer, there are the ulnar branches of the medial cutaneous nerve of the forearm, the medial cutaneous nerve of the arm and the tributaries of the basilic vein. In the deep layer, there are the ulnar nerve, the anteriovenous network formed by the superior ulnar collateral arteries and veins and the posterior braches of the ulnar recurrent artery and vein on the posterior lateral side of the ulnar nerve.
Indications:
Headache, swelling of the cheek, pain in the nape, shoulder, arm and elbow Epilepsy.
Prescription:
Combined use with ZhongzhuTE3 (Zhongzhu (TE3) Shu-Stream Point) for treatment of paralysis of ulnar nerve; with FengchiGB20 (Acupuncture Single Point Fengchi (GB20)) for treatment of tremor of the upper limbs; with QuchiLI11 (Quchi (LI 11) He-Sea Point) for treatment of arthritis of elbow joint.
Methods:
Insert the needle obliquely 0.5-0.8 cun deep; needling response: a sensation of distension and numbness radiating to the hand; moxibustion: using 3-5 moxa-cones, or mild moxibustion for 15 min.
