Acupuncture Point Quyuan (SI13)
Location:
Sit upright with drooping shoulder; at the midpoint of the line connecting NaoshuSI10(Naoshu (SI10)) and spinous process of the 2nd thoracic vertebra.
Function:
Relaxing muscles and tendons and activating collaterals, and alleviating pain.
Regional Anatomy:
Skin-subcutaneous tissue-trapezius muscle-supraspinous muscle.
In the superficial layer, there are the cutaneous branches of the posterior branches of the 2nd and 3rd thoracic nerves and their accompanying arteries and veins. In the deep layer, there are the muscular branches of the suprascapular nerve, the branches or tributaries of the suprascapular artery and vein and the dorsal scapular artery and vein.
Indications:
Pain and stiffness of the scapular region.
Prescription:
Combined use with FengchiGB20 (Fengchi (GB20)) for treatment of nervous headache; with HouxiSI3 (Houxi (SI 3) Shu-Stream Point, The Eight Confluent Point) for treatment of cervical spondylosis; and with JianjingGB21 (Jianjing (GB21)) for treatment of stiff neck due to improper posture in sleeping.
Methods:
Insert the needle obliquely upward 0.3-0.5 cun deep; needling response: local sensation of distension and numbness; moxibustion: using 3-10 moxa-cones, or mild moxibustion for 15 min.
