Acupuncture Point Yanggu (SI5)
Location:
Incline the palm with centre of the palm facing forward; directly above WanguSI4 (Wangu (SI4) Yuan-Primary Point), in the depression at a distance of the triangular bone.
Function:
Tranquilization, and refreshing oneself, and removing obstruction in the channels and collaterals.
Regional Anatomy:
Skin-subcutaneous-tissue-anterior side of tendon of ulnar extensor muscle of writs.
In the superficial layer, there are the dorsal branches of the ulnar nerve and the basilic vein. In the deep layer, there are the dorsal branches of the ulnar artery.
Indications:
Swelling in the neck and submandibular region, pain in the hand and wrist, and febrile diseases.
Prescription:
Combined use with TinghuiGB2 (Tinghui (GB2)) for treatment of nervous deafness; with FutuLI18 (Futu (LI 18)) for treatment of scapulohumeral periarthritis; with DazhuiGV14 (Dazhui (GV14)) for treatment of epilepsy; with TaichongLR3 (Taichong (LR 3)) Shu-Stream, Yuan-Source Point) and KunlunBL60 (Kunlun (BL60)) Jing-River Point) for treatment of ophthalmia; with XiaxiGB43 (Xiaxi (GB43)) Ying-Spring Point) for treatment of swelling in the cheek and trismus.
Methods:
Insert the needle perpendicularly 0.3-0.5 cun deep; needling response: local sensation of distension and numbness; moxibustion: using 3-5 moxa-cones, or mild moxibustion for 15 min.
