Drug Mortar with Pestle

Unearthed at Juye,Shandong Province.Bronze.H:13.6cm,mouth d:15cm,mouth wall t:5.7cm,bottom d:11 cm:for the pestle,1:36cm,d:2.4cm at one end,3.6cm at the other.Mortar wt:5.2kg,pestle wt:2.25kg.The mortar is cylindrical,with a square lip.The rim of the flat bottom curve outward to form a pseudo—leg.At the upper part of the body,there is a circular ridge.At one side of the mouth an inscription reads‘‘21 jin in weight" in four characters.The pestle is rodshaped and deformed by cracks.Five Chinese characters on it say "8 jin 1liang in weight."(Collection of Juye County Cultural Center,Shandong Province)
