The method is a manipulation to make passive articular movement of flexion and extension for treatment of dysfunction of articular movement in flexion and extension. The operator holds the distal part of the limb with one band, fixes the joint with the other hand, then slowly, evenly, continuously and forcefully makes the joint extend and flex. The range of movement may gradually increase. And a pulling and pressing force should be slightly used in flexion and extension. In special conditions, hyperflexion and hyperextension may be done for loosening adhesion, but violent pull and extension should be avoided for fear of leading to fracture or dislocation. The force should just be proper, neither too strong nor too weak. The method has actions of relaxing tendons and activating collaterals, and relaxing adhesion for treatment of spasm and contracture of tendon, adhesion of ligament and muscular tendon, and articular rigidity. It is suited for dysfunction of movement of joints of knee, ankle, shoulder and elbow.
