Smearing and rubbing medicine:    
This is a preparation for directly smearing on the diseased part or as media of massage therapy when tendon-smoothing manipulation is performed. There are generally two kinds.

Tincture:
It is a medicated liquor or liquid for external use. It is made by soaking the herbs in mixture of white spirit and rice vinegar whose ratio is generally 8 to 2, or in white spirit or alcohol only. The commonly used tinctures are huoxue liquor, Shujin liquid, Zhenggu liquid, Shujin Zhitong liquid, etc. with actions of promoting blood circulation to stop pain, relaxing tendons and activating collaterals, expelling wind and dissipating cold.

Oil agent and ointment:
Oil agent is made through removing the residue from decoction of herbs and sesame oil. And ointment is made through adding yellow wax to the oil agent. They are of the action of warming meridians and dredging collaterals and resolving blood stasis. They are suitable for treating symptoms of cold pain in meridians and joints due to invasion of cold and dampness. The commonly used agents are Dieda Wanhua Oil, Shang Ointment, and Huoluo Ointment, etc.

Wet-packing medicine:
Nowadays, medicated liquids, usually made from medicinal herbs, are often used for washing and wet-packing wound or infectious wound. First, let clean silks or new cottons dipped in the medicated liquid, then use it for washing and wet packing. The commonly used medicines are 2 % to 12 % Huangbai Liquid, fresh Pugongying Juice, and Yejuhua Decocted Liquid, etc.
