Character of the tongue: The tongue fur is dry and rough and feels coarse, which is mostly developed from dry fur.
Clinical significance: It indicates exhaustion of body fluids due to excess pathogenic heat. When the tongue fur changes from moistness to dryness, it indicates the consumption of body fluids by extreme heat, or failure to distribute body fluids. On the contrary, when the tongue fur changes from roughness to moistness, it shows elimination of heat and recovery of body fluids, or preliminary transformation of the pathogenic fluids.
