Tuina

The patient is in the sitting position. The practitioner manipulates on the patient’s nape, shoulder and back regions with rolling. The right hand should be applied for rolling on the left side, and the left hand for rolling on the right side so as to make the manipulation easier. When the acted regions receive full stimulation of the rolling and local pain and muscle contraction can be relieved.Wrenching can be cooperated. During this stage, one hand supports the patient’s forehead, while the other hand continues rolling on the nape region. When the hand is rolling on the occiput region, the hand which supports the forehead flexes the neck to its painful barrier position and makes a sudden, controlled wrenching to expand the flexion range 3 to 5 degrees (Fig 215). When the hand is rolling on the bottom of the neck, the other hand drives the neck to be extended to its painful barrier position and makes a sudden and controlled wrenching to expand extension range 3 to 5 degrees (Fig 216).Click to read Chinese medicine Treatment for Angina.

If rolling on the left side, the homelateral hand rotates the neck leftward to its painful barrier position and makes a sudden and controlled wrenching to expand rotation range 3 to 5 degrees(Fig 217).If rolling on the right side, the right hand rotates the neck rightward to its painful barrier position and makes a sudden and controlled wrenching to expand rotation range 3 to 5 degrees. Repeat the above movement 2 to 3 times. Then the practitioner holds the temple region with one hand, delivers rolling on the lateral region of the neck with the heterolateral hand. The practitioner laterally bends the neck at opposite direction gradually to its painful barrier position, and makes a sudden and controlled wrenching to expand lateroflexion range 3 to 5 degrees. Repeat this movement 2 to 3 times. Again repeat the same movement oil the opposite side (Fig 218). These manipulations are applicable to the treatment of neck sprain, cervical spondylopathy and the strain of soft tissues of the neck. Click to read Myocarditis in TCM.
