Acupoints on the cheek are usually needled perpendicularly or obliquely or horizontally 0.3 - 0.8 cun.
Yintang (EX-HN 3)--It is needled horizontally downwards 0.3 - 0.5 cun when the skin is pinched. It should not be needled deeply downwards to the bilateral sides lest the eye ball be impaired.
Sibai (ST 2)--It is needled 0.2 - 0.3 cun perpendicularly or 0.3 - 0.5 cun obliquely downwards. It should not be needled deep lest the blood vessels and nerves be pricked because it is in the infraorbital foramen. After the withdrawal of the needle, the punctured acupoint is pressed to avoid bleeding.
Yingxiang (LI 20 )--It is needled obliquely and medially upwards 0.3 - 0.5 cun.
Shuigou (GV 26), Suliao (GV 25)--They are generally needled obliquely upwards.
Dicang (ST 4)--It is often needled 0.5- 1 cun horizontally towards Jiache (ST 6).
Taiyang (EX-HN 4)--It is needled 0.3 - 0.5 cun perpendicularly or obliquely backwards, or is pricked for bloodletting.
Jiache (ST 6)--It is needled 0.3 - 0.5 cun perpendicularly or 0.5- 1 cun horizontally towards Dicang (ST 4).
