Jingming (BE 1)--There are rich blood vessels and loose tissues in the subcutaneous region. So it is easy to cause bleeding. If it is needled deep, optic nerve may be impaired. In the treatment, the patient is asked to close the eyes and the eyeball is pushed gently to the lateral side. It is needled slowly and perpendicularly 0.3-0.7 cun along the orbital wall. The needle should not be lifted and thrusted or twirled and rotated so as to avoid pricking blood vessels. The needle is withdrawn gently and slowly. Then the punctured point is pressed for 2 – 3 minutes with sterilized dry cotton balls in order to prevent bleeding.
Chengqi (ST 1)--Before needling, the eyeball is pushed upwards for fixation. The other requirements are the same as those for Jingming (BL 1).
Cuanzhu (BL 2)--It is needled 0. 3 - 0. 5 cun horizontally downwards for the treatment of ocular diseases; it is needled horizontally and externally to Yuyao (EX-HN 4) for the treatment of facial paralysis.
Sizhukong (TE 23), Tongziliao (GB 1)">Tongziliao (GB 1)--They are usually needled horizontally backward.
