Acupuncture Single Points for infantile malnutrition

Overview
Infantile malnutrition is a syndrome caused by insufficient food intake or excessive food utilizing and consuming, which both lead to body can't maintain normal metabolism and expend one's own tissue. Onset of syndrome occurs most often below age 3. It manifests that gradual fat reduction, body weight degression, edema, muscle atrophy, growth and development stopping, often accompanied with different level functional disorder in all systems. It belongs to liver syndrome, accumulation syndrome in TCM. Irregular milk and food, unclean eating lead to spleen and stomach damaged, essence not transformed. Long-term invalidism consumes and damage qi and yin. Otherwise owing to loathing food, choosy in food, vomiting and diarrhea for long time, not nursing one's health after disease, contraction of parasitic disease, they damage the qi of spleen and stomach, and can not nourish qi and blood. Therapeutic principle is rectifying spleen and dispersing accumulation, supplementing and boosting qi and blood.

Treatment
1. Sifeng (EX-UEI0)
Let the patient be sitting or supine position, fix the child's hands, carefully sterilize each point, quickly prick the point with 2 gauge three-edged needle, insert and withdraw needle very quickly. Squeeze the point with sterilized cotton ball and let all yellow -white mucosal fluid out from the needling hole. Treatment is done once every day until there is no yellow-white mucosal fluid out.

2. Jiaji (EX-B2)
Let patient be prone position, tap the Jiaji (EX-B2) from T7-T12 with cutaneous needle until the skin turn into flare up. Treatment is done once every day or once every other day. And tap for 10-20 minutes each time. 10 times makes up a course of therapy.

3. Acupoint of Du meridian on back, Back-shu point. Let patient be prone position and expose back. Doctor knead the child's back skin on Changqiang point, then relax, and knead upward skin and relax again, alternate kneading and relaxing. Manipulating chiropractic from Changqiang point up to Dazui point is one time. After 3 times, manipulate chiropractic from Baihuanshu point up to Dazhu point along the point locating line 1.5 cun lateral to the posterior median line. Alternate kneading and relax. Manipulate another 3 times. Treatment is done once every day and 6 times makes up a course of therapy. Take a rest for 5 days, continual the next therapy course.

4. Yuji (LU10)
Let the patient sitting or supine position, fix the child's hands, sterilize the Yuji  acupoint’s skin according to surgery request, give local anaesthesia, cut open longitudinal incision 4 mm, massage the incision interior part with hemostatic forceps. If appearing needle sensation, the treating effect is better. Then take out of a small quantity fat with hemostatic forceps, Press the operative site with sterilized cotton ball to avoid bleeding, and give bandaging.

Note
1. If the disease is caused by enterosite or tuberculosis, it must treat the primary disease. In the later disease stage, the extreme emaciation child should be treated by combining drug or integrating traditional and western medicine.

2. It is more important to this disease in prophylaxis than in treatment. Infant should be fed with breast milk as far as possible. When weaning, Infant should be fed with nutritive and digestive food.

3. Feeding should fix time and quality; avoid dietary bias in normal time. Pay more attention to regular milk and food in treatment.
