Acupuncture Point Fengshi (GB31)
Location:
1. Stand upright with two arms drooping freely; at the spot where the tip of the middle finger reaches. 2. Lateral position; on the middle line of the lateral side of the thigh, about 7 cun above the transverse stria of popliteal fossa.

Function:
Dispelling wind and removing dampness, regulating the flow of qi and blood, dredging the meridians and the collaterals.

Regional Anatomy:
Skin-subcutaneous tissue-iliotibial tract-lateral muscle of thigh-intermediate vastus muscle of thigh.
In the superficial layer, there is the lateral cutaneous nerve of the thigh. In the deep layer, there are the mudcular branches of the descending branches of the lateral circumflex femoral artery and the muscular branches of the femoral verve.

Indications:
Pain and soreness in the leg and lumbar region, paralysis of the lower limbs, beriberi, and general pruritus.

Prescription:
Combined use with QuchiLI11 Quchi (LI 11) He-Sea Point) for treatment of urticaria; with YanglingquanGB34 (Acupuncture Single Point Yanglingquan (GB34) He-Sea Point, Influential Point of Tendon) for treatment of gonitis; and with WeizhongBL40 (Weizhong (BL 40) He-Sea Point, Lower Confluent Point) and XingjianLR2 (Xingjian (LR2) Ying-Spring Point) for treatment of lumbago.

Methods:
Insert the needle perpendicularly to 1-2 cun depth; needling response: local numbness and distention, radiating downward; moxibustion: using 5-7 moxa-cones, or mild moxibustion for 15 min.
