Acupuncture Point Huantiao (GB30)
Location:
1. Lateral position; extend the lower leg, flex the upper leg to a right angle, press the highest point of the greater trochanter with the transverse stria of thumb joint of the doctor, with the thumb pointing to the spine, at the spot where the thumb readhes. 2. Lateral position; in the depression posterior to greater trochanter, about at the juncture of the external 1/3 and intermediate 1/3 of the line connecting greater trochanter and sacral hiayus.
Function:
Expelling wind and removing dampness, relieving rigidity of waist and leg.
Regional Anatomy:
Skin-subcutaneous tissue-greatest gluteal muscle-sciatic nerve-quadrate muscle of thigh.
In the superficial layer, there is the suprior clunial nerve. In the deep layer, there are the sciatic nerve , the inferior gluteal nerve, the posterior cutaneous nerve of the thigh, and the inferior gluteal artery and vein.
Indications:
Lumbocrural pain, muscular atrophy of the lower limbs, and hemiplegia.
Prescription:
Combined use with QuchiLI11 (Quchi (LI 11)) He-Sea Point) for treatment of neurodermatitis and psoriasis; with FutuLI18 (Futu (LI 18)) for treatment of hemiplegia; with YanglingquanGB34 (Acupuncture Single Point Yanglingquan (GB34) He-Sea Point, Influential Point of Tendon) for treatment of arthralgia due to wind and-dampness; with WeizhongBL40 (Weizhong (BL 40) He-Sea Point, Lower Confluent Point) for treatment of lumbago; and with ShuguBL65 (Shugu (BL65) Shu-Stream Point), JiaoxinKI8 (Jiaoxin (KI8) Xi-Cleft Point), YinjiaoCV7 (Yinjiao (CV7)), and YangguSI5 (Yanggu (SI 5) Jing-River Point) for treatment of scelalgia.
Methods:
Insert the needle perpendicularly to 1.5-2.5 cun depth; needling response: needling electric-shock-like numbness extending toward the foot; moxibustion: using 10-15 moxa-cones, or mild moxibustion for 20 min.
