Acupuncture Point Zhongdu (GB32)
Location:
Lateral position; on the middle line of the lateral side of the thigh, 5 cun above the transverse stria of popliteal fossa.
Function:
Dredging the meridians and activating the collaterals, and expelling wind and removing dampness.
Regional Anatomy:
Skin-subcutaneous tissue-iliotibial tract-lateral vastus muscle of thigh-intermediate vastus muscle of thigh.
In the superficial layer, there is the lateral cutaneous nerve of the thigh. In the deep layer, there are the mudcuar branches of the descending branches of the lateral circumflex femoral artery and the muscular branches of the femoral nerve.
Indications:
Pain and soreness of the leg and knee, numbness and weakness of the lower limbs, and hemiplegia.
Prescription:
Combined use with WeizhongBL40 (Weizhong (BL 40) He-Sea Point, Lower Confluent Point) for treatment of gonitis; and with ChengshanBL57 (Chengshan (BL57)) for treatment of systremma.
Methods:
Insert the needle perpendicularly to 1-1.5 cun depth; needling response: local sensation of numbness and distention, radiating downward; moxibustion: using 5-7 moxa-cones, or mild moxibustion for 10 min.
