Acupuncture Point Chongyang (ST42)
Location:
Supine or upright sitting position; on the highest spot of the dorsum of the foot, 3 cun above XianguST43 (Xiangu (ST43) Shu-Stream Point), where the dorsal artery of foot pulsates.
Function:
Regulating the stomach, resolving phlegm and tranquilizing.
Regional Anatomy:
Skin-subcutaneous tissue-between tendons of long extensor muscle of great toe and long extensor muscle of toes-short. extensor muscle of great toe-intermediate cuneiform bone.
In the superficial layer, there are the medial dorsal cutaneous nerve and the dorsal venous network of the foot. In the seep layer, there are the dorsal pedal artery and vein and the deep peroneal nerve.
Indications:
Toothache, redness and swelling of the dorsum of the foot, facial paralysis, and muscular atrophy and motor impairment of the foot.
Prescription:
Combined use with FenglongST40 (Fenglong (ST40) Luo-Connecting Point) and ShuigouGV26 (Shuigou (GV26)) for treatment of schizophrenia; with DazhuiGV14 (Dazhui (GV14)) for treatment of epilepsy; with YintangEXHN3 (EX-HN3) for treatment of giddiness; with ZusanliST36 (Zusanli (ST36) He-Sea Point), PucanBL61 (Pucan (BL61)), FeiyangBL58 (Feiyang (BL58)), FuliuKI7 (Fuliu(KI7) Jing-River Point) and WanguGB12 (Wangu (GB12)) for treatment of flacid paralysis; with DicangST4 (Dicang (ST4)) for treatment of deviation of the mouth.
Methods:
Avoid puncturing the artery. Insert the needle perpendicularly 0.2-0.5 cun deep; needling response: local sensation of distension; moxibustion: using 3-5 moxa-cones, or mild moxibustion for 10 min.
