Acupuncture Point Qihu (ST13)
Location:
Sit upright or lie supinely; at the midpoint of the lower border of clavicle, 4 cun apart from midclavicular line laterally, vertically above the nipple.
Function:
Promoting dispersing function of lung, regulating the flow of qi, and dispersing the accumulation of lumps.
Regional Anatomy:
Skin-subcutaneous tissue-greater pectoral muscle.
In the superficial layer, there is the intermediate supraclavicular nerve. In the deep layer, there are the axillary artery and the thoracoacromial artery.
Indications:
fullness in the chest, Asthma, cough, hiccup, pain in the chest and hypochondrium.
Prescription:
Combined use with ChizeLU5 (Chize (LU5)He-Sea Point) for treatment of bronchitits; and with HuagaiCV20 (Huagai (CV20)) for treatment of intercostal neuralgia.
Methods:
Insert the needle obliquely 0.2-0.4 cun deep; needling response: local sensation of distension and soreness; moxibustion: using 3-5 moxa-cones, or mild moxibustion for 15 min.
Note:
Don't puncture deeply, or else the needle would injure the axillary artery and the thoracoacromial artery by its tip when puncturing perpendicularly 1 cun deep, or cause the injury of subclavian artery and bleeding when performing lifting, thrusting and twirling manipulation, or would penetrate the serratus anterior muscle-the external intercostal muscles -the internal intercostal muscles-the parietal pleura-the pleural cavity-the visceral pleura and the lung, injure the lung tissue and cause pneumatothorax when puncturing more than 1 cun deep.
