Bronchial asthma is a disease of the lungs in which an obstructive ventilation disturbance of the respiratory passages evokes a feeling of shortness of breath. Symptoms can occur spontaneously or can be triggered by respiratory infections,exercise, cold air, tobacco smoke or other pollutants, stress or anxiety, or by food allergies or drug allergies. In TCM clinic, it is subdivided into deficient and excessive types. The former is treated with herbs for tonifying the spleen and kidney and soothing asthma; the later with herbs for resolving phlegm, restoring the reverse qi and soothing asthma.
Treatment
1. Chest area on scalp acupuncture
Filiform needle is punctured on Chest area on scalp acupuncture from up to down at depth of 1.2 cun with quick rotating method at small amplitude, and then remained for 10-15 minutes with manipulation every 5 minutes.
2. Dingchuan (EX-B1)
Point Injection is employed with 5 mg Verapamil Injection on bilateral Dingchuan (EX-B1), once daily and 7-10 times as one duration.
3. Tinghui (GB2)
A filiform needle is inserted into Tinghui ( GB2 ) at depth of 0.5 cun with thrusting and lifting manipulation, which can soothe the asthma immediately on asthma attack.
4. Yuji (LU10)
The point is selected for needling and needle is left in the point for 30 minutes after the patient having needling sensation.
5. Sifeng (EX-UE10)
Pricking on Sifeng ( EX-UE10 ) with three edged needle and causing a few white or yellowish mucous fluid, which is repeated every 3-7 days.
6. Neiguan (PC6)
The patient is punctured and is given reducing manipulation by rotating the needle after needling sensation is reached and the needle is left for 30 minutes.
Note
There are various points for treating asthma effectively, which are usually selected based on practitioner's experience. The author prefers Yuji (LU10) and chest area on scalp point.
