Coronary heart disease (CHD), also called coronary artery disease (CAD) and atherosclerotic heart disease, is the end result of the accumulation of atheromatous plaques within the walls of the arteries that supply the myocardium (the muscle of the heart), or ischemic heart disease. Angina pectoris, myocardiac infarction, arrhythmia and cardiomagely are chief manifestations, heart failure, which is treated with herbs for activating blood circulation and removing the blood stasis from the coronary arteries.
Treatment
1. Neiguan (PC6)
Bilateral Neiguan (PC6) points are punctured simultaneously at depth of 0.5-1 cun. After needling qi is arrived, the patient is stimulated with quick rotating manipulation for about 2 minutes till needling sensation transfers and needles is left for 30 minutes, once daily for 10 times as one duration.
2. Zhiyang (DU9)
When angina is occurred, the patient is pressed on Zhiyang (DU9) persistently or intermittently with edge of a coin and is usually relieved after 5-10 seconds.
Note
Coronary heart disease is a serious disease. Acupuncture is effective to some extent, but it is usually used as adjunct therapy or used only when other therapies are not available.
