Acupuncture Point Sibai (ST2)
Location:
Upright sitting or supine position; with one's eyes looking forward horizontally, vertically below the pupil, in the infraoribital foramem (below the lower border of the orbit).
Function:
Improving eyesight and expelling wind.
Regional Anatomy:
Skin-subcutaneous tissue-orbicular muscle of eye, levator muscle of upper lip-infraorbital foramen or maxilla.
In the superficial layer, there are the branches of the infraorbital nerve and the zygomatic branches of the facial nerve. In the deep layer, the infraorbital artery, vein and nerve pass through the infraorbital foramen.
Indications:
Redness, pain and itching of the eye, facial paralysis, twitching of eyelids, pain in the face.
Prescription:
Combined use with TianshuST25 (Tianshu (ST25) Front-Mu Point of the Large Intestine) for treatment of biliary ascariasis; with JiacheST6 (Jiache (ST6)) and YangbaiGB14 (Yangbai (GB 14)) for treatment of facial paralysis; and with YongquanKI1 (Yongquan (KI 1) Jing-Well Point) and DazhuBL11 (Dazhu (BL 11) Influential point of bone) for treatment of headache and dizziness.
Methods:
Insert the needle perpendicularly 0.5-0.8 cun deep; needling response: a sensation of numbness and distension radiating to the nose and the upper lip.
