Acupuncture Point Taiyi (ST23)
Location:
Supine position; 2 cun above the level of umbilicus, 2 cun apart from the midline of the abdomen laterally.
Function:
Relieving convulsion, resolving phlegm, regulating the stomach, and alleviating pain.
Regional Anatomy:
Skin-subcutaneous tissue-anterior sheath of rectus muscle of abdomen-rectus muscle of abdomen.
In the superficial layer, there are the lateral and anterior cutaneous branches of the anterior branches of the 8th and 10th thoracic nerves of the superficial epigasteic vein. In the deep layer, there are the branches or tributaries of the superior epigadtric artery and vein and the muscular branches of the anterior branches of the 8th and 10th thoracic nerves.
Indications:
Gastric pain, vexation, mania, and indigestion.
Prescription:
Combined use with QihaiCV6 (Qihai (CV6)) for treatment of gastroptosis; and with YinlingquanSP9 (Yinlingquan (SP9) He-Sea Point) for treatment of enteritis.
Methods:
Insert the needle perpendicularly 0.5-1 cun deep; needling response: local sensation of distension; moxibustion: using 3-5 moxa-cones, mild moxibustion for 15 min.
