Acupuncture Point Yinshi (ST33)
Location:
Sitting upright with flexed knees; 3 cun vertically above the external superior border of the knee joint.
Function:
Inducing menstruation and dispelling cold, and regulating the flow of the flow of qi to alleviate pain.
Regional Anatomy:
Skin-subcutaneous tissue-between tendons of rectus muscle and lateral vastus muscle of thigh-intermediate vastus muscle of thigh.
In the superficial layer, there are the anterior cutaneous branches of the femoral nerve and the lateral cutaneous nerve of the thigh. In the deep layer, there are the descending branches of the lateral circumfiex femoral artery and vein and the muscular branches of the femoral nerve.
Indications:
Numbness, soreness, motor impairment of the leg and knee, and motor impairment of the lower extremities.
Prescription:
Combined use with YanglingquanGB34 (Yanglingquan (GB34) He-Sea Point, Influential Point of Tendon) for treatment of arthritis; with ShuifenCV9 (Shuifen (CV9)) and ZusanliST36 (Zusanli (ST36) He-Sea Point) for treatment of edema; with TaixiKI3 (Taixi(KI3) Shu-Stream, Yuan-Source Point) and GanshuBL18 (Ganshu (BL18)) for treatment of abdominal pain caused by periumbilical colic due to invasion of cold.
Methods:
Insert the needle perpendicularly 1.0-1.5 cun deep; needling response: local sensation of distension; moxibustion: using 3-5 moxa-cones, mild moxibustion for 15 min.
