Acupuncture Point Xiangu (ST43)
Location:
Supine or upright sitting position; in a depression ahead of the combining site of the 2nd and 3rd metatarsal bones.
Function:
Regulating the stomach and reducing water retention, and regulating the flow of the flow of qi to alleviate pain.
Regional Anatomy:
Skin-subcutaneius tissue-tendon of long extensor muscle of toes-medial side of tendon of short extensor muscle of toes-2nd dorsal interosseous muscle-oblique head of adductor of great toe.
In the superficial layer, there are the medial dorsal cutaneous nerve and the dorsal venous network of the foot. In the deep layer, there are the 2nd dorsal metatarsal artery and vein.
Indications:
Facial or general edema, abdominal pain, borborygmus, and swelling painful heels.
Prescription:
Combined use with TianshuST25 (Tianshu (ST25) Front-Mu Point of the Large Intestine) for treatment of gastroenteritis; with HeguLI4 (Hegu (LI4) Yuan-Source Point) for treatment of common cold; with FengchiGB20 (Fengchi (GB20)) for treatment of hysteria; and with ShimenCV5 (Shemen (CV5) Front-Mu Point of Sanjiao) for treatment of Stuffiness and blocking Sensation in the chest.
Methods:
Insert the needle perpendicularly 0.3-0.5 cun deep; needling response: local sensation of distension; moxibustion: using 3-7 moxa-cones, mild moxibustion for 10 min.
