Acupuncture Point Xiajuxu (ST39)
Location:
Sitting upright with flexed knees; 6 cun vertically below ZusanliST36 (ST 36).
Function:
Regulating the intestine and stomach, and dredging the meridian passage.
Regional Anatomy:
Skin-subcutaneous tissue-anterior tibial muscle-interosseous membrane of leg-posterior tibial muscle.
In the superficial layer, there is the lateral cutaneous nerve of the calf. In the deep layer, there are the anterior tibial artery and vein and the deep peroneal nerve. Intestine
Indications:
Lower abdominal pain, backache referring to the testis, Mastitis, and numbness and paralysis of the lower extremities.
Prescription:
Combined use with HuantiaoGB30 (Huantiao (GB30 )) for treatment of hemiplegia; with GuanyuanCV4 (Guanyuan (CV4) Front-Mu Point of the SmallIntestine) for treatment of cystitis; with YoumenKI21 (Youmen (KI21)) and TaibaiSP3 (Taibai(SP3) Shu-Stream, Yuan-Primary Point) for treatment of dysentery.
Methods:
Insert the needle perpendicularly 1.0-1.5 cun deep; needling response: local sensation of distension, radiating towards the foot; moxibustion: using 7-15 moxa-cones, or mild moxibustion for 15 min.
