Acupuncture Point Ruzhong (ST17)
Location:
Sit upright or lie supinely; at the centre of the nipple, midpoint of the 4th intercostal space (man) approximately.
Function:
Regulating the flow of qi and restoring consciousness.
Regional Anatomy:
Skin of mammary nipple-subcutaneous tissue-greatrer pectoral muscle.
In the superficial layer, there are the lateral cutaneous branches of the fourth intercostal nerve. In males, the subcutaneous tissue is mainly composed of the connective tissue and trace, but not parenchyma, of the mammary gland. In the deep layer, there are the branches of the medial and lateral pectoral nerves and the branches or tributaries of the lateral pectoral artery and vein.
Indications:
Acupuncture and moxibustion on this point are contraindicated. This point serves only as a landmark for locating points on the chest and abdomen.
