Acupuncture Point Zhongshu (GV7)
Location:
Lie prostrate or pronely; firstly, locate ZhiyangGV9(Zhiyang (GV9)) on the lower side of spinous process of the 7th thoracic vertebra about at the same level of the angulus inferior scapula, then locate by passing the 3rd spinous processes below ZhiyangGV9(GV9), in the depression at the lower side of it.
Function:
Strengthening the spleen and regulating the functions of the stomach, relieving rigidity of muscles and activating the collaterals, and removing heat and damp.
Regional Anatomy:
The layer structures of the needle insertion are the same as those in Jizhong (GV6) (GV 6).
In the superficial layer, there are the medial cutaneous branches of the posterior branches of the 10th thoracic nerve and the accompanying artery and vein.In the deep layer, there are the external (posterior) vertebral venous plexus between the adjacent spinous processes, the branches of the posterior branches of the 10th thoracic nerve and the branches or tributaries of the dorsal branches of the dorsal branches of the 10th posterior intercostal artery and vein.
Indications:
Pain in the epigastric region, low back pain, stiffness of the back.
Prescription:
Combined use with Acupuncture Single Point Huantiao for treatment of spinitis; with Acupuncture Single Point Dazhui for treatment of spondylocace; and with Zusanli (ST 36) He-Sea Point) for treatment of chronic gastritis.
Methods:
Insert the needle obliquely to upward 0.5-1 cun depth; needling response: local numbness and distention; moxibustion: using 3-5 moxa-cones, or mild moxibustion for 10 min.
Note:
Be careful not to injure the spinal cord when puncturing.
