Disabilities refer to the functional disturbances or loss due to trauma and diseases of limbs and the body like hemiplegia, paraplegia, fracture and amputation. In addition, severe multiple neuritis, myelitis, progressive myoatrophy, myodystrophy and hysterical paralysis. The disease is called "wei zheng"(flaccidity syndrome) in TCM. Disabilities of limbs and the body may occur in many parts of the body such as limbs, vertebrae and trunk. Flexible treatment and proper methods are advisable according to the specific pathological sites in the health preservation of the disabilities.

1. Regulating emotions
The patients are susceptible to had emotions like pessimism, melancholia and impetuosity because of the functional loss resulting from disabilities of limbs and the body. It is advisable for them to select proper psychological health preservation methods in accordance with the patients'' mental states. Various toys are suitable for children and juveniles with disabilities of limbs and the body as a means of recreation, and also beneficial to the rehabilitation of the functions of their hands and feet. 2. Health care with sports

3. Life cultivation with loutrotherapy
Bathing in spring water is more suitable. It is advisable to drink spring water and bathe in spring water simultaneously. It is suitable to drink sweet spring water and to bathe in low temperature spring water in combination with massage for the promotion of qi flow and blood circulation as well as functions of limbs and the body. Generally speaking, bathe in the water of salt springs or carbonic acid springs with the suitable temperature of 39 to 42℃ for 20 to 30 minutes; bathe in the water of hydrogen sulfide springs or radon springs with the suitable temperature of 38 to 40℃ for 15 to 20 minutes, 3 or 4 times a day. Bathing massage is mostly done by a doctor while the patient is bathing. The patient may use the buoyancy of water to exercise his or her affected limbs. Hot water may be used as the substitute in the place where there are no springs. Medicated bath is also the commonly-used health preservation method for those with disabilities of the limbs and body. Decoct Cangzhu (Rhizoma Atractylodis), Huangbai (Cortex Phellodendri), Niuxi (Radix Achyranthis Bidentatae), Heshouwu (Radix Polygoni Multiflori), black bean, Taoren (Semen Persieae), Honghua (Flos Carthami) and Danggui (Radix Angelicae Sinensis). Use the decoction to fumigate and steam, or bathe the affected part, or wash and bathe the whole body for 15 to 20 minutes each time, once or twice a day. 4. Dietary therapy with the medicinal diet
Dry 300g of cattle bone marrow over a fire and grind it into powder. Parch 300g of black sesame until it smells fragrant and grind it into powder. Then add a proper amount of sugar to the powder and mix and stir the types of powder evenly. Take the powder twice a day, 9g each time. Or cook 200g of fresh pig bone marrow, 30g of soybeans and 100g of Jingmi (Fructus Oryzae Sativae) together. Eat the food. Besides, it is also advisable to dry pig spinal cord or cattle spinal cord over a fire. Then, grind it into powder. Mix it with rice powder. Take the powder after mixing it with sugar water. Also, the powder of human placenta may be taken, twice a day, 3g each time.

In addition, patients with deficiency of qi and blood may eat Hen Stewed with Danggui (Radix Angelicae Sinesis) and Gruel of Huanqi (Radix Astragali seu Hedysari) and Dazao (Fructus Ziziphi Jujubae); patients with blood stasis may eat Peach Kernel Gruel or Haw Gruel. 5. Health care with drugs
The ingredients include 300g of slices of Lujiao (Cornu Cervi) (soaked in wine for 12 hours first), 120g of Shudihuang (Radix Rehmanniae Praeparata) and 45 g of slices of Fuzi (Radix Aconiti Praeparata). First, steam the ingredients until they are done. Then, dry the ingredients over a fire and grind them into powder. Make the powder into pills with barley gruel. Take the pills with rice soup, 3 times a day, 7g each time. The pill is applicable to asthenia of the liver and kidney. 6. Nursing in daily life
Patients lying in bed may adopt the clinostatic passive physical training, the postures of which are changed at any time to prevent deformities. Then, they may adopt active physical training like the sitting, standing and walking exercise.
