This is a group of conditions caused by dysfunctional or poorly formed blood cells. These syndromes happen when an event of some sort goes wrong in the bone marrow which is the spongy matter inside the bones and is where blood cells are created. There is no cure for this group of syndromes. Treatment for these syndromes normally will focus on preventing or reducing any complications of the disease and its management. In some cases, these syndromes are managed with a bone marrow transplant that might help in prolonging life.

Symptoms and Signs of Myelodysplastic syndrome in TCM
1. Pattern of Deficiency of Kidney Yin:
Main symptoms: pale complexion, redness in the face, dizziness, palpitations, fatigue, shortness of breath, weak waist, limb pain, dry mouth, fever, night sweats, red tongue, less coating, rapid pulse.

2. Pattern of Spleen and kidney Deficiency Yang:
Main symptoms: pale complexion, fatigue, palpitations, shortness of breath, frequent urination, weak waist, impotence, aversion to cold, spontaneous perspiration, pale tongue, white coating, thin weak pulse.

3. Pattern of Toxic-Heat Accumulation
Main symptoms: flushed face and congested eyes, thirst, prefer to cold-drink, nose and teeth epistaxis, skin ecchymosis, sore throat, erosions in the oral cavity, yellow tongue, slip pulse.

4. Pattern of Phlegm and Blood Stasis
Main symptoms: dull complexion, scaly dry skin, lymph node tuberculosis, chest and hypochondrium pain, palpitations, fever, fatigue, dark tongue with ecchymosis, uneven pulse.
