Clinically all the conditions of the disease is separately called in traditional
Chinese medicine "Jianxuan Chilan", "Lanxuanfeng", and "Ziwei Chilan". The cause of the disease is closely related with the pathogenic wind, dampness and heat. Internally, the pathogenic dampness and heat is accumulated in spleen and stomach, and externally there is the invasion of pathogenic wind. The combat and combination of both the internal and external pathogenic fators gives rise to the stagnation of wind, dampness and heat in the lid-margins, thus causing the disease. The onset of angulary blepharitis is also associated with internal hyperactivity of heart fire and pathogenic wind-fire which burns and damages the lid-margins and canthi. Since wind hyperactivity can give rise to itching, damp hyperactivity to ulceration, and heat hyperactivity to redness, the disease is clinically characterized with itching, ulceration and redness.
