Syndrome differentiation and treatment
Being asthenia in most cases, the disease is clinically classified into the syndromes of deficiency of kidney yang, yin deficiency of the liver and kidney, and deficiency of spleen qi. The common treatment methods, therefore, should include warmly tonifying kidney yang, nourishing the liver and kidney, invigorating the spleen to replenish qi, supported simultaneously with drugs to remove blood stasis by activating blood circulation.
1. Syndrome of Deficiency of Kidney Yang
Main Symptoms and Signs: Blurred vision in twilight or dim light, difficulty in action, gradual contraction of visual field or even tubular visual field, and blindness at last; the fundus findings including wax yellow astrophy of optic disc, contraction of retinal vessels, osteocyte-like or irregular pigmentation of the retina in the equatorial part spreading to the posterior pole and zigzag edge, and filthy colour of the whole retina; accompanied by the symptoms of fever with cold limbs, lassitude in loin and legs, and profuse urine; whitish tongue and thin pulse.
Therapeutic Method: Recuperating kidney yang warmly.
2. Syndrome of Yin Deficiency of Liver and Kidney
Main Symptoms and Signs: The same ocular symptoms as the above one, accompanied by dizziness, tinnitus, dreaminess, seminal emission, vexation, insomnia and lassitude in loin and legs; reddish tongue with a little coating and thin rapid pulse.
Therapeutic Method: Nourishing the liver and kidney.
3. Syndrome of Asthenia of Spleen Qi
Main Symptoms and Signs: The same ocular symptoms as the above, accompanied by metal fatigue, hypodynamia, dim complexion, poor appetite and loose stool; whitish tongue with whitish coating and thin pulse.
Therapeutic Methods: Nourishing the spleen and benefiting qi.
