The onset of the disease is closely related to climate and the external environment, and prevails in fall and winter. The incidence is higher in some cold and dry places. Abnormal high temperature and increased floating dust may cause the onset of the disease, too. Pathological changes of atrophy of mucosa may spread downwards to the nasal pharynx, oral larynx, and laryngopharynx, etc. The disease is called "Bigao" (atrophic rhinitis) in TCM.
