Key points for diagnosis
(1) The disease has a long course of illness amd repeated attack.
(2) The pharyngeal part has various uncomfortable sensations like foreign body sensation, dryness, itch, cauma and slight pain. Secretion may be profuse or scanty, but adheres to the posterior pharyngeal wall. The stimulation of the secretion may cause irritable cough. Therefore, the patient may vomit in severe cases while removing the secretion with effort in the morning after bed time. General symptoms are mostly not marked.
(3) Local examination may show diffuse congestion and swelling of the pharyngeal mucosa, angiectasis of small blood vessels with dark red colour and attachment of scanty sticky thick secretion, or pachynsis of the pharyngeal mucosa with diffuse congestion, hyperplasia of lymph follicles of the posterior pharyngeal wall with congestion and swelling which distribute granularly or mix together to form lumps as well as congestion and pachynsis of the lateral pharyngeal bands.
In TCM, a disease or a symptom might be caused by one pathogenic factor, even two or three pathogenic factors. When diagnosing a disease or a symptom, TCM doctors must follow the principle of "Syndrome Dfferentiation", and then "Suit the Remedy to the Case". In order to gain a more definite and valuable diagnosis, it's important and necessary for the doctor to learn the detailed health information of the patient, including his/her disease duration, age, sex, height, weight, family history, urine, stool, diet, sleep, sweat, energy, mood (emotion), as well as the tongue conditions and the palm conditions, etc. If you would want our expert to create a TCM diagnosis, you're welcome to contact us.
