Syndrome differentiation and treatment
The commonly-seen syndromes of nasal vestibulitis include stagnated heat of lung meridian, dampness and heat of the spleen and stomach, blood deficiency transforming into dryness. The syndrome of stagnated heat of lung meridian is characterized by local burning sensation, pain, dryness and itch. Treatment should lie in clearing away heat from the lung. The syndrome of dampness and heat of the spleen and stomach is marked by local erosion with profuse exudate. Treatment should be clearing away heat and removing dampness. The features of the syndrome of blood deficiency transforming into dryness are longer course of illness, local dry and pachynsis skin. Treatment should lie in nourishing blood and promoting blood circulation.
1. Syndrome of stagnated heat of lung meridian
Main symptoms and signs: Local burning sensation, redness, swelling, pain, dryness or itch of nasovestibular skin, feverish body, thirst with inclination to drink, dry stool, red tongue with yellowish fur and rapid pulse.
Therapeutic method: Clearing away heat from the lung.
2. Syndrome of dampness and heat of the spleen and stomach
Main symptoms and signs: Local erosion of the nasal vestibule with exudate which is dampness and not easily dried, mild pain, severer itch, red tongue with yellowish and greasy fur, thready and weak pulse.
Therapeutic methods: Clearing away heat and re- moving dampness.
3. Syndrome of blood deficiency transforming into dryness
Main symptoms and signs: Longer course of illness, rough, dry and pachynsis skin of the nasal vestibule with rhagas and itch, more crusts and squames, lichenification of skin, reddish tongue with whitish and thin fur, thready and weak pulse.
Therapeutic method: Nourishing yin and blood.
