The syndrome differentiation of hypophrenia should be based on the case history and features of syndromes. Congenital insufficiency and postnatal diseases belong to asthenia of the liver and kidney in most cases; postnatal loss of nourishment, or improper nursing after recovery pertains to asthenia of the heart and spleen as well as deficiency of the qi and blood on most occasions; retardation of standing and walking is largely due to asthenia of the liver and kidney; retardation of lingual ability and hair growth commonly results from blood deficiency of the heart; for the patients with history of birth injury or trauma, the disease is often caused by blood stasis obstructing cerebral collaterals.
