The causes of hydrocephalus can include nothing more than congenital factors and acquired factors in summarization. Congenital insufficiency causes deficiency of the kidney qi; attack by exogenous seasonal pathogenic factors makes heat go up to invade the brain; postnatal malnutrition and improper nursing after illness lead to asthenia of the spleen, giving rise to excessive water; or deficiency of the kidney yin fails to nourish the liver, the liver yang will be hyperactive, resulting in excessive rising wind and water; blood stasis obstructs collaterals, constricts cerebral marrow and blocks cerebral orifices, causing widened fontanel and metopism. All the above factors may finally give rise to hydrocephalus.
