Key points for diagnosis
(1) The onset is abrupt, with the symptom of fever, cough, short breath, flapping of ala nasi, rale, or mild cyanosis.
(2) In severe cases, asthma with restlessness, dysphoria, grey complexion, worsened cyanosis or lingering high fever occur.
(3) Infantile patients with weak congenital constitution often suffer from lingering diseases. The inability to suck milk, foam in the mouth, listlessness, etc. occur in the newborn.
(4) Pulmonary auscultation may reveal fine and moist rales often accompanied by dry rales.
(5) X-ray examination shows increased lung-marking out of order, decreased transmittancy. Small patchy mottlings as well as uneven and large patchy shadow may be discovered.
(6) Hemogram Total white blood cell count increases in most infantile patients, so does the classified neutrophilic granulocyte. If the disease is caused by viral infection, the white blood cell count may be less, slightly more or normal.
In TCM, a disease or a symptom might be caused by one pathogenic factor, even two or three pathogenic factors. When diagnosing a disease or a symptom, TCM doctors must follow the principle of "Syndrome Dfferentiation", and then "Suit the Remedy to the Case". In order to gain a more definite and valuable diagnosis, it's important and necessary for the doctor to learn the detailed health information of the patient, including his/her disease duration, age, sex, height, weight, family history, urine, stool, diet, sleep, sweat, energy, mood (emotion), as well as the tongue conditions and the palm conditions, etc. If you would want our expert to create a TCM diagnosis, you're welcome to contact us.
