This is a condition in new mothers with convulsions of the limbs, stiffness of neck and back, trismus, and opisthotonos.
Postpartum convulsions and postpartum tetanus can be treated by the following methods.
Applications of hand therapy:
Acupuncture therapy:
At regular and extra acupoints:
Location: Quchi (LI 11), Hegu (LI 4), Houxi (SI 3) and Neiguan (PC6) acupoints.
Method of manipulation: The medium stimulation is applied and the needles are retained for 20 minutes.
At special acupoints beside the second metacarpal bone:
Location: Upper limb acupoint, leg acupoint, and liver acupoint.
Method of manipulation: The needles are inserted for 1.6 cm and retained for 20 minutes.
Hand bath:
Recipe: Radix Angelicae Sinensis (Danggui) 100 g, Rhizoma Gastrodiae (Tianma) 10 g. scorpion 10 g, silkworm 15 g, centipede 2 pieces, and Nanxing (Rhizoma Arisaematis) 10 g.
Function: To promote blood circulation, tone the blood and control convulsions due to disturbance of internal wind pathogen.
Method of manipulation: A hot decoction of these herbs is used to steam and wash both hands for 30 minutes, twice a day.
