Diagnostic Essentials for Drug Rash in Chinese medicine:
1. Urticaria and Vascular Edema Type
It is mainly manifested by urticaria and pruritus, and localized edema in the region with loose tissue. It can also be a symptom of serumoid syndrome and allergic shock. Skin rash is in red color and lasts for longer time.

2. Scarlatiniform or Morbilliform Eruption Type
This type is most common and manifested by diffuse fresh red papules or red maculopapule in size from rice grain to bean, in dense patch and multiple attack.

3. Multiform Erythema Type
It refers to edematous erythema and papule occurring symmetrically on the four limbs, manifested frequently by blisters in the center and purple color in the border. In severe conditions, the membrane of the eye, mouth and external genitalia can be invaded to cause blister, erosion and serious pain, accompanied by fever, joint pain and abdominal pain.

4. Purpura Type
It refers to bleeding purpura in size from a needle tip to soybean or larger size, but without thrombocytopenia.

5. Exfoliative Dermatitis or Erythroderma Type
It is manifested by flushed color and tumefaction in the whole body, accompanied by effusion and crust, progressively by large patches of scale exfoliation, and obvious general symptoms, such as fever, aversion to cold, proteinuria, lymphadenectasis, hepatomegaly, jaundice, etc.

6. Atrophic and Necrotic Type of Bullous Epidermolysis
It is the most severest type, manifested primarily by deep red, dark red and slightly gray plaque in skin rashes,swiftly coagulated and developed to the whole body. Flaccid blisters and epidemolysis in different size take place on the plaque, in scald form, together with large patches of membrane necrosis and exfoliation. Also, it can be developed from multiform erythema and fixed drug rash, manifested by serious toxification in the whole body, fever and pathological change of the internal organs. It can cause death if not rescued promptly.
