TCM Perspective On
Hair Loss
Hair loss, including partial or full baldness, affects most men and women at some stage in their lives. For most people, hair loss is mild and occurs later in life. However, when hair loss is premature or severe, it can be the source of much distress and lower self esteem.
According to Chinese Medicine theory certain Chinese herbs can be used to treat hair loss and the underlying conditions that cause hair loss. In Chinese Medicine view, hair is a direct reflection of the Kidney energy, Liver energy and Blood: a lack of circulation or insufficient amounts of Blood can result in the loss of hair. The Kidney and Liver have a strong influence on the hormones. The conditions of the hair follicles can also be affected by the toxicity of the blood, and the Liver and Kidney are important organs to eliminate toxins.
Many Chinese herbs have been used for thousands of years to promote hair growth by tonifying the blood, balancing hormones, restoring Kidney Energy, and directing nourishing blood to the scalp. He Shou Wu is the main Chinese herb for hair, known for its beneficial effects on strengthening the hair, building Blood, and reversing the graying of hair, according to Chinese Medicine theory. In Chinese Medicine view, washing your hair with He Shou Wu shampoo can make a preventative difference too.
