Most people with gallstones (60% to 80%) have no symptoms. In fact, they are usually unaware that they have gallstones unless symptoms occur. These "silent gallstones" usually require no treatment. Smptoms usually occur as complications develop. The most common symptom is pain in the right upper part of the abdomen. Because the pain comes in episodes, it is often referred to as an "attack." Symptoms and signs of Gall-stone in TCM are listed as follows.
1. Pattern of Excessive Damp-heat in the Body
Main symptoms: abdomen sharp pain, nausea and vomiting, poor appetite, fever, aversion to cold, yellow complexion, constipation, grey and white stools, yellow and greasy tongue coating, rapid pulse.
2. Pattern of Qi stagnation
Main symptoms: dull pain in the right upper abdomen, belching, repeated attack, bitter taste and dry throat, nausea and vomiting, poor appetite, slight yellow sclera, dark urine, thin white coating, slip pulse.
3. Pattern of Fester and Ulcer
Main symptoms: abdomen sharp pain, nausea and vomiting, poor appetite, fever, aversion to cold, yellow complexion, persistent abdominal pain, muscular tension, shock.
4. Pattern of Low Body Resistance
Main symptoms: persistent dull pain, unconsciousness, coma, yellow complexion, abdominal distension, enlarged liver and spleen, constipation, purple tongue coating, slip pulse.
