ORIGIN: The shelled seed of Castanea mollissima [Fagaceae].
CHEMICAL COMPOSITION: Containing 5.7% of protein, 2.0 % of fat, 62 % of carbohydrate, 1.3% of ash, 25% of starch and vitamin B and lipase.
NATURE, FLAVOR AND CHANNEL TROPISM: Sweet in flavor and warm in nature, acting on the channels of the spleen, stomach and kidney.
EFFICIENCIES AND INDICATIONS: Nourishing the stomach and strengthening the spleen, tonifying the kidney to strengthen the muscles, promoting blood circulation and arresting bleeding. It is used to treat Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD) or diarrhea due to weakness of the spleen and stomach, Lumbago caused by general deficiency of the human body, hematemesis, Nasal Bleeding, hemafecia, incised wound, ecchymoma and pain resulting from fracture, scrofula and pyogenic infections.
DIRECTIONS: To be eaten raw, cooked, parched, or stewed along with meat. It is effective for arresting bleeding to eat it raw; while for invigoration and replenishment, to eat it cooked. Nevertheless excessive eating is no good.
