The source is from the tender branch and leaf of Biota orientalis (L.) endl., family Cupressaceae. The plants are cultivated in all parts of China. The medicinal material can be collected all year round. The crude or charred one can be used.
Medicinal Properties: Bitter and astringent in flavor, slightly cold in nature and attributive to the lung, liver and large intestine meridians.
Actions: Cool the blood and stop bleeding, eliminate phlegm and relieve cough.
Application
2. For cough with plenty of sputum, especially for cough with yellowish and thick sputum, and dyspnea due to lung-heat, it can be used alone or combined with Huangqin (Radix Scutellariae), Shashen (Radix Adenophorae Strictae ) , etc..
In addition, it is also prepared into tincture for external application to treat loss of hair.
Usage and Dosage:
10 - 15 g is used in decoction for oral use, and just right amount for external use.
