International acupuncture symposium was held in Nanxiang
Inheritors of Lu's Acupuncture gathered together at a symposium in Nanxiang town, Jiading district, on April 10, to exchange ideas and clinical experience with Shanghai's acupuncture experts.
Lu's Acupuncture was founded by Lu Shouyan (1909-1969), a famous acupuncturist who started to learn medicine from his father Li Peiqing at the age of 16. The treatment was included in national intangible cultural heritage list in 2011.
Lu Yanyao, a representative inheritor of Lu's Acupuncture announced at the gathering to open a research center for this traditional medical technique in the town.
From then on, inheritors of this acupuncture treatment will work on acupuncture studies at the town and give medical services to local residents.
Lu Yanyao said that this move will contribute to the preservation and development of Lu's Acupuncture.
Wu Yaochi, a young inheritor of the acupuncture, also said that traditional Chinese medicine deserves more attention and preservation because it is a treasure of the traditional culture.
Nanxiang has been committed to promoting the culture of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM). The town has built a TCM-featured cultural street and opened TCM courses. It has also launched a TCM health promotion program and established a studio for prestigious TCM doctors.
