Abdominal tenderness is a condition that is usually related to or a result of abdominal pain. If the area around your abdomen is tender to the pressure of your hand, then chances are you are suffering from abdominal pain. The location of the abdominal tenderness also provides the physician with the exact underlying cause of the abdominal pain. Usually, the range of the abdominal tenderness varies from mild to severe to extremely painful. If you are suffering from any of the following conditions, then there are chances that these conditions will lead to abdominal tenderness. The conditions include nausea, fever, vomiting, unexplained sweating, diarrhea, swelling of the abdomen, and abdominal pain. These conditions can also be regarded as symptoms.
However, since abdominal pain is usually the main reason for abdominal tenderness, you will need to address these problems that cause abdominal pain. Abdominal pain in turn can be due to several reasons. These reasons could be as mild as gas or indigestion, or as severe as the presence of kidney stones. If the reason is mild, chances are it will cover a larger area of your abdomen. However, the severe pain is generally due to some problem with a specific organ. Here are a few things that you should do at home when you start experiencing abdominal pain. If the pain persists for more than 2 to 3 days, then you should consult your local physician immediately.
How to take care of your abdominal tenderness
To take care of the pain, drink as much fluids as you can. If possible, keep sipping warm water or any other fluids that are basically clear throughout the day. You can also drink simple, highly diluted, buttermilk at regular intervals. In the name of solid food, cook plain rice and have it unflavored yogurt. This should ideally be your main consumption of solid food till your abdominal pain disappears. You can also have fruits such as apples and papaya to help with the digestion. Apart from the yogurt, avoid consuming anything that is related to diary products. If the intensity of the pain increases after every meal, chances are that the pain is due to heartburn. In such a scenario, you will need to avoid consuming foods that are high in fats, deep-fried, citrus fruits, caffeine, and alcohol. Do not consume any medication that is anti-inflammatory. If, however, even after 3-4 days, the pain continues to exist, you find it unable to pass stool, if vomiting, you will vomit blood, and so on, you will need to immediately consult your physician.
