Form 14: Wave Hands
1) Carry on from the previous movement, move the right palm down in an arc to the front of the abdomen with the arm rotating clockwise and the palm facing to the left. At the same time, the left palm moves across the front of the body, then pushes to the front of the left shoulder in an arc with the arm rotating clockwise and the palm facing outwards and left. Transfer the weight onto the left leg, and then move the right foot to cross behind the left, place the toes on the floor. (Figure 4-65)
2) Turn your body to the right slightly and transfer the weight onto the right leg with the whole right foot landing fully onto the floor. Lift your left foot up and move out a step to the left with the heel touching the floor first, keeping the toes lifted up. At the same time, move the right hand up, across the front of the body, then push it to the front of the right shoulder with the arm rotating counter clockwise. Push the left palm to the left side, then press down in front of the abdomen in an arc with the arm rotating counter clockwise. Eyes look forward. (Figure 4-66)
3) Turn the body to the right slightly and move the right palm down in an arc to the front of the abdomen with the arm rotating clockwise and the palm facing to the left. At the same time, the left palm moves across the front of the body, and then pushes out in front of the left shoulder, but in an arc, with the arm rotating clockwise and the palm facing outward and left, Transfer your weight onto the left leg, and then move the right foot across and behind the left foot, making sure only the toes land on the floor. (Figure 4-67)
Key Requirements to the Movement:
The waist should be the central axis of the movement. Both hands move in an arc in front of the body. Moving one step out and moving one step that crosses behind, together make one whole movement. When crossing behind, keep space between the legs and step the toes one pace back. So in order to walk a straight line to the left, the left foot must move slightly forward during each step subsequent to the first. It is normal to practice four sets but the number of sets can be varied to fit the available space. Click here to learn Herpes Simplex in TCM.
