Diagram of Hospital in Taiwan in the Ming Dynasty
In 1624, Dutch invaders landed at Tainan, Taiwan, and occupied Anping, where they established a trading center. This is a conjectural model of the colonists' "Fort Zeelandia" displayed at the exhibition center of the fort's remains at Anping. The rectangular outer city, facing the sea, is a trading area, and contained a hospital. The arrow points to the site of the hospital. Fig. 2 is the present appearance of the Anping fort. At the right is a bronze statue of the Ming loyalist Zheng Cheng-gong, who drove the Dutch from Taiwan in 1661. (By courtesy of Ha Hongqian.)
