Elucidation:
The syndrome is due to unrelieved pathogenic factors in shaoyang that affect yangming and cause excessive accumulation of heat and indigested food in the intestine. It should be treated with mediating method to purge away heat accumulation from shaoyang. The first ingredient in larger dosage is meant to dispel pathogenic factors and ingredient No. 2 to purge heat from shaoyang, both being the primary drugs for treating shaoyang disease and acting as monarch drug in this recipe. Ingredient No. 6 in smaller dosage and ingredient No.5 are the primary drugs for purging away heat accumulation and serve as minister drug, the former for purging away heat to relieve constipation and the latter removing stagnation of qi.
Used as adjuvant drug, ingredient No. 3 bears the function of relieving spasm or pain, and ingredients No. 4 and No. 7 regulating the stomach and descending the adverse rising qi. The last ingredient serves as guiding drug to regulate the properties of other drugs. This recipe is actually prepared on the basis of Xiao Chaihu Tang and Da Chengqi Tang with modification, the combination of which generates the result of removing pathogenic factors from shaoyang in the exterior and purging away heat accumulated in yangming in the interior.
Cautions:
Since this recipe, with a larger dosage of the first ingredient, is expected mainly to treat shaoyang disease, it is unfit for the case of both shaoyang and yangming disease with the latter prevailing.
