Character of the tongue: The granules the tongue fur are thick and big, loose and unfixed in the bottom, like bean curd dregs piled on the tongue surface. The fur is thick in both the center and margins, and can be scraped away or peels off. However, the tongue body is bright and smooth.
Clinical significance: It is caused by upward evaporation of dampness due to stomach qi deficiency, in which new fur cannot be generated and the produced fur is unable to connect the stomach qi and gradually separates from the tongue body, floating on the tongue surface and becoming rootless.
