The vibration caused by vibrating is oscillatedly transmitted. If the direction of vibration is changed to make the vibration transmit transversely to the surrounding area, the manipulation is caned waying. In waving, the manipulator puts the ulnar side of the hand on the patient’s body surface with his wrist joint relaxed, makes rapid and minor range movement of flexing and extending the wrist to cause the patient’s superficial tissues to generate a kind of high frequency vibration(Fig 1 14). The waving is applicable to the chest, abdomen, lumbar and limbs, has the actions of relaxing muscles, regulating the digestive function, promoting the blood circulation, alleviating spasm and relieving pain, and so is often applied to treat indigestion, muscle spasm and swelling and pain in the local tissues.
